We need YOUR voice.

The EMU First Annual Advocacy Speech Contest in 2011-12 focuses on the issue of bullying and LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgender) Youth.  Inspired by the "It Gets Better Project" which was created to offer stories of hope for the future, the “Let’s Make it Better Now” speech competition is an attempt to stop this trend of peer bullying and harassment TODAY. Let's make change happen now so youth don't have to wait to grow older for things to get better. You do NOT need to be a LGBT to participate! No matter who you are, you can make a difference in some way. You ALL are able to make a video, regardless of your experience. Need help recording the video? We can do it for you!

You can raise awareness and make it better now. Advocate for the human rights of LGBT students and share your voice.
And win a $500 prize for doing it!

Check out the video below for more...
Select speeches will be edited into two videos- one "short" for online viewing and one longer version which will be copied to DVD and shared with middle and high schools, community centers, youth groups, etc in the Ypsilanti area. Winning speeches will be presented at the "Let's Make it Better Now" event during EMU's MLK Jr Celebrations.

What do you need to do? Create a videotaped speech based on “Making it Better Now” for LGBT youth. Speeches must be taped and submitted to the Center. Here's how (there are many ways)? We can tape it for you! Just contact us at msage@emich.edu. You can record it yourself and either post it to YouTube to YouTube Account: EMUcrehr (http://www.youtube.com/user/EMUcrehr) OR email msage@emich.edu, OR drop off a CD/DVD or Flashdrive with it on to 128 Quirk. Then sign the easy video release form. That's it! It's easy and it can really help make a big difference. We need your voice to help make it happen.
